Originally from Scotland and now based in Staffordshire, Stu discovered ceramics during a difficult period with his mental health, finding focus, purpose and a renewed sense of creativity through working with clay. His practice centres on porcelain and the ancient techniques of saggar and pit firing, where fire, smoke and natural materials become active collaborators in the making process. Drawn to the balance between intention and unpredictability, he embraces the unique surfaces these firings create, ensuring no two pieces are ever alike. Alongside his signature fired work, Stu also creates thoughtfully designed functional ceramics inspired by his Scottish heritage.
